Ghanaians faced high rejection rates when applying for Schengen visas in 2024. According to official stats, 56,032 visa applications were filed in Ghana last year. Only 29,890 were approved, leaving a rejection rate of 45.5%.
That’s a slight improvement from 2023, when 47.5% of applications were rejected. Still, almost 1 in 2 applicants didn’t get the visa.
Of the 2024 approvals, 39.5% were multiple-entry visas, down slightly from 40.8% in 2023. That means fewer Ghanaians were granted the freedom to enter the Schengen zone multiple times on one visa.
Where Ghanaians Were Most Likely to Get Approved
Some Schengen countries were more lenient than others. Germany gave Ghanaians the best odds. Out of 8,165 applications, it approved 6,262, rejecting only 22.9%. Almost every approval was a multiple-entry visa, a strong sign of trust.
Other countries with relatively low rejection rates included:
-
Hungary: 27.8% rejection (1,723 out of 2,386 approved)
-
Spain: 35.5% rejection (3,310 out of 5,459 approved)
-
France: 38.9% rejection (5,014 out of 8,442 approved)
These countries also issued a good number of multiple-entry visas, giving applicants more travel flexibility.
The Toughest Schengen Embassies for Ghanaians
Other countries were far stricter:
-
Denmark: 61.5% rejection
-
Czech Republic: 61.3%
-
Malta: 59.7%
-
Netherlands: 59.6%
-
Norway: 54.4%
-
Italy: 52.7%
The Netherlands, in particular, received 14,466 applications, the most by far, but approved only 5,675.
While overall rejection rates dropped slightly in 2024, they’re still high. Most applicants also don’t get multiple-entry visas, which limits how often and freely they can travel.
