Passengers and crew remained onboard for several hours while airport officials coordinated their safe evacuation.

At 7:37 p.m., Air Canada confirmed that everyone had left the aircraft and entered the airport terminal safely.

The airline said the plane would be moved to a hangar for a detailed inspection. Air Canada is also working with the relevant authorities to establish what caused the runway excursion.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has launched an investigation into the incident.

Investigators were deployed to the airport to examine the aircraft, collect information, and assess the circumstances surrounding the runway excursion.

Their findings are expected to help determine whether weather, mechanical, operational, or other factors contributed to the incident.

The airport activated its emergency coordination centre after the aircraft left the runway.

Montreal airport officials temporarily closed the north runway to allow passengers to leave the plane safely and give investigators access to the scene.

The closure affected airport operations and caused delays for some arriving and departing flights. Travellers were advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

The runway reopened at approximately 9:55 p.m. after investigators completed their initial work at the scene.
