The number of Schengen visas issued in 2024 rose sharply. A total of 9.87 million visas were granted, 1.3 million more than the year before, a 15% increase.
Travel to Europe is bouncing back. People are moving again, and the data proves it.
France processed more visas than any other country, 2.56 million. That’s more than one in four Schengen visas issued worldwide. Spain came in second with 1.32 million, followed by Germany with 1.3 million.

Greece closely followed with 616,841 visas.
Some countries issued thousands of visas at border crossing points. Spain issued over 22,000 that way, and the Netherlands issued nearly 15,000. These could include emergency cases or short-notice travel.
The numbers show more people are getting visas, but that doesn’t make approval easier. Rejections still happen. Travelers still need to get their documents right.
