France processed more visas than any other country, 2.56 million. That’s more than one in four Schengen visas issued worldwide. Spain came in second with 1.32 million, followed by Germany with 1.3 million.

Top 5 Countries That Issued Schengen Visas In 2024

  1. France – 2,556,353

  2. Spain – 1,327,298

  3. Germany – 1,300,909

  4. Italy – 1,105,414

  5. Netherlands – 616,959

Greece closely followed with 616,841 visas.

Some countries issued thousands of visas at border crossing points. Spain issued over 22,000 that way, and the Netherlands issued nearly 15,000. These could include emergency cases or short-notice travel.

The numbers show more people are getting visas, but that doesn’t make approval easier. Rejections still happen. Travelers still need to get their documents right.

More details are coming. We will break down which Schengen states are more open to African travelers next.
