The UK transport secretary, Grant Shapps, in a tweet as said that measures to simplify international travel will be announced later. The changes are expected to do away with the traffic light system for travel in the UK and further reduce the cost as a result of the many tests, and also take advantage of the higher levels of vaccinations.

BBC reports that Ministers are considering scrapping the requirement for double-jabbed people returning to the UK to need PCR tests and that the “traffic light” system for overseas travel could also be simplified, with the amber list removed entirely.

Meanwhile, the Guardian and the Times have reported that dozens of countries will be removed from the red list –

Red List countries, which is currently the highest level of alert for international travel and required returning travellers to spend 11 nights in hotel quarantine at a cost of £2,285 is expected to have the number of countries on the list reduced hugely.

In the latest update to the traffic light system on 17 September 2021, Bangladesh, Egypt, Kenya, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Turkey will move to the amber list at 4am Wednesday 22 September.
