Unemployment in Sweden has risen to 8.0 per cent and is projected to continue increasing, reaching 8.5 per cent in early 2025. The growing unemployment rates are largely driven by rapidly rising unemployment among foreign-born individuals.

In response to the shortages, Sweden is actively seeking to fill various positions, particularly in healthcare, IT, and education. The country has identified a need for highly educated professionals such as midwives, civil engineers, system analysts, IT architects, software and system developers, police officers, nursing assistants, and more. Additionally, skilled workers in areas such as farming, transportation, plumbing, manufacturing, construction, and welding are also in high demand.

The shortage of workers has become a pressing issue in Sweden, with over 106,000 job openings registered throughout the country in the second quarter of 2023. As the labour market continues to face challenges, the need for more workers in critical sectors has become increasingly apparent.

As the demand for workers in Sweden continues to grow, individuals with the requisite qualifications and skills have the opportunity to contribute to the country’s workforce and make a meaningful impact.
