Romanian police officers and their partners in other countries have been busy detecting people subject to Schengen Information System (SIS) alerts recently. Between December 29 and January 4, a total of 563 individuals were identified in Romania and abroad.
Of the 563 individuals detected, 418 of them were found in Romania as a result of the additional exchange of information through the SIRENE Bureau of the International Police Cooperation Center General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police. According to SchengenVisaInfo.com, this also led to the implementation of 19 European arrest warrants and the detection of various individuals reported by EU Member States for reasons such as refusal of entry or stay in the Schengen Area, participation in judicial procedures, and even missing persons.
Furthermore, 36 documents and 38 vehicles sought by Schengen Zone partners were discovered in Romania, with a variety of purposes including confiscation or use as evidence in legal proceedings.
The exchange of information through the SIRENE Bureau also led to the identification of 145 individuals wanted by Romanian authorities on foreign territory. Of these individuals, 19 were being pursued by Romanian Police based on European arrest warrants, 20 were reported for refusal of entry or stay in the Schengen Zone, and 8 were wanted for participating in judicial procedures.
The Schengen Information System (SIS) plays a vital role in allowing European Union countries to share and manage information related to missing or wanted persons and irregular entry attempts, among other purposes. It contains over 40 million alerts and is an essential tool for law enforcement cooperation in the EU.
