Travellers from visa-free countries heading to Mozambique must now register online before their trip. The new rule, announced by immigration authorities at Mavalane Border Post, applies to 29 countries, including Ghana, the UK, the US, Canada, and several in Europe and Asia.
Everyone coming from a visa-exempt country must complete an online registration at least 48 hours before their flight. This includes tourists and business travellers. The process takes place at www.evisa.gov.mz and comes with a fee of 650 Mozambican Meticais (around $10).
Even though a visa isn’t needed, this pre-registration is now mandatory. Without it, travellers could be stopped from boarding or denied entry on arrival.
Who Needs to Register?
Citizens of the following countries:
-
Ghana, Senegal, Ivory Coast
-
United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Ireland
-
Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland
-
China, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Singapore
-
United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Russia, Ukraine
What You’ll Need
After registering, travellers receive an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) by email. Print it or save a digital copy to show at the border. You’ll also need:
-
Passport
-
Proof of where you’re staying
-
Return flight
-
Bank statement or cash to show you can cover your stay
Business travellers must also show a letter of invitation.
The Mozambican government says the move helps tighten border control and improve security. But for travellers, it just means one more thing to take care of before flying.
