With more than 6.3 million passengers traveling through Latvia’s Riga Airport (RIX) in 2023, there was an impressive 23% increase compared to the previous year. During the same year, the airport welcomed 20 airlines and handled over 61,000 flights, solidifying its position as the leading airport in the Baltic States. In fact, Riga Airport served 42% of the total Baltic air traffic passengers and 40% of all flights in 2023.

The data revealed by RIX showed a 23% increase in direct passengers compared to 2022, with over 5.2 million travelers. Additionally, over 1.4 million passengers used Riga Airport as a hub for connecting flights, attributing the increase in transfer and transit passenger traffic to the wide choice of destinations from Riga.

Laila Odiņa, Chairperson of the Board at Riga Airport, noted that the demand for short to medium-haul flights to leisure destinations has been driving the largest passenger traffic from Riga. Riga Airport also experienced higher revenues, with a net turnover of €54.5 million in the first nine months of 2023 and a profit of €5.3 million.

In addition to the rise in passenger traffic and financial success, Riga Airport introduced a special passenger security checkpoint for families with young children and “Family of Honor” cardholders, aiming to enhance the travel experience for these passengers.

Overall, Riga Airport’s impressive growth in passenger traffic and operations in 2023 has solidified its position as a key airport in the Baltic region, offering a wide choice of destinations and improving the travel experience for all passengers.
