Copenhagen Airport of Denmark, also known as CPH, has reported a significant surge in passenger numbers in 2023, with a whopping 26.8 million passengers passing through its gates. This marks a 21% increase from the previous year, making it the best year for the airport since 2019.

Peter Krogsgaard, Chief Commercial Officer of Copenhagen Airports, expressed his satisfaction with the 21% growth in arrivals, noting that the increase included both business and leisure travel. He also mentioned that two out of three passengers are holidaymakers, with many Danes and southern Swedes using Copenhagen Airport as their gateway to the world.

More than 50% of Copenhagen Airport’s travelers live in Denmark or Sweden, with the remainder mainly consisting of tourists from other European countries and North America. Krogsgaard foresees a higher number of visitors this year, as the number of tourists wanting to visit Copenhagen continues to grow.

In terms of popular destinations, the UK topped the list in 2023, attracting nearly 2.6 million passengers on routes to this destination. London was the most favorite destination among UK cities, with about 1.8 million passengers. The USA also saw a significant number of passengers with over one million people flying between Copenhagen and US airports, marking a return to 2019 levels.

Overall, in 2023, Copenhagen Airport saw a total of 2.9 million passengers traveling outside of Europe. Sixty airlines operated 321 routes to 164 destinations at Copenhagen Airport, marking the highest figure since 2018.

In December 2023 alone, nearly two million people traveled through Copenhagen Airport, with the top ten destinations for that month including cities such as London, Oslo, Stockholm, Amsterdam, and Paris.

With an increase in the number of arrivals throughout 2023, Copenhagen Airport is expecting even more visitors in the coming year, thanks to the city’s cool vibe, Danish “hygge,” gourmet dining scene, and green and innovative approach to life. Plus, with the airport offering a greater number of routes and destinations, it’s easier than ever for travelers to explore this vibrant and thriving Danish city.
