Ghana and Morocco have agreed to drop visa requirements for travelers between the two countries. Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the decision after meeting with Moroccan Ambassador Imane Ouaadil. The deal will be sent to both parliaments for approval.
This agreement will make travel easier and strengthen ties between the two nations. It comes as Morocco also plans to double scholarships for Ghanaian students, increasing from 90 to 180 this year.
Ambassador Ouaadil also addressed concerns about the safety of Africans in Morocco. She dismissed social media claims that 700 Africans had been killed, explaining that the footage being shared is from a border incident on June 24, 2022, where 23 people lost their lives. Authorities in Morocco and Spain investigated the event, and no Ghanaians were among the casualties.
Ghana and Morocco also plan to work together in agribusiness, tourism, and security. Officials from both countries see this as a step toward deeper cooperation and economic growth.
