Germany is ready to sign a labour deal with Ghana that could send thousands of young Ghanaians to work in Europe.
The deal, still in the works, would allow Ghanaians to legally live and work in Germany under a special arrangement between the two countries. If approved, it would follow a similar agreement Germany recently signed with Kenya.
Ghana’s Foreign Minister announced the news after holding talks in Berlin with top German officials. These included Johann Wadephul, Mr. Joachim Stamp, Germany’s lead on migration agreements, and officials from the Interior Ministry. The meetings took place during the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference.

“We expect the agreement to be implemented soon,” the Minister said in a post on Facebook.
The plan is to ensure safe and decent jobs abroad, giving young Ghanaians better options while helping Germany deal with its labour shortage.
The Foreign Minister added that the government remains focused on finding real solutions to the country’s challenges.
