Egypt’s representatives at the Miss Mediterranean International (MMI) pageant, Mayada Hamed, Miss Mediterranean International 2025 from Cairo, and Lily Ahmed, Miss Mediterranean Teen 2025 from Alexandria, recently embarked on a 14-day cultural and tourism exchange visit to Malaysia. The visit aimed to strengthen tourism and highlight both countries’ natural beauty.

During their visit, Mayada and Lily explored two key Malaysian destinations: the bustling capital, Kuala Lumpur, and the picturesque Langkawi Island. Their journey was filled with engaging cultural experiences designed to promote unity and appreciation of heritage.

The beauty queens participated in Batik painting workshops, where they learned the traditional Malaysian technique of wax-resist dyeing. They also attended performances of Malaysia’s famous dances, including Joget, Zapin, and Kuda Kepang, immersing themselves in the country’s vibrant cultural expressions.

“Being able to engage directly with Malaysia’s traditions made me feel connected to the culture in such a unique way. These moments of cultural exchange show how beauty pageants can bridge cultures and bring people together,” said Lily Ahmed.

A key highlight of their visit was the exploration of Batu Caves, an iconic spiritual and historical site. They visited religious landmarks such as the Sri Venkatachalapathi & Alamelu Temple, Ramayana Cave, and The Cave Villa, enriching their understanding of Malaysia’s cultural and religious diversity.

“Visiting Batu Caves was an unforgettable experience. The beauty of the site and the stories behind its religious significance gave us a deeper appreciation of Malaysia’s cultural diversity,” shared Mayada Hamed.

Promoting Global Tourism and Cultural Connections

In addition to cultural engagements, the queens explored Malaysia’s modern and historical landmarks, including the Petronas Twin Towers, Merdeka Square, Istana Negara, and Thean Hou Temple. They saw how Malaysia preserves its heritage and shared Egypt’s cultural pride.

“I am particularly attuned to the richness of Malaysia’s traditions and history. Malaysia’s commitment to culture and religion is something it shares with my country. The love for ancient heritage and traditions unites us,” added Mayada.

This visit showed how the pageant promotes tourism and culture. Mayada and Lily strengthened Egypt’s tourism ties by experiencing Malaysia’s culture firsthand.

The beauty queens act as cultural ambassadors. Their visit helped strengthen tourism and cultural ties between Egypt and Malaysia.
