Changes in UAE Visa Policy Impact Tourist Entry Periods

In a notable development affecting visitors to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the issuance of three-month visit visas has been discontinued. This change comes as part of evolving visa policies in the country, raising questions about the availability of longer tourist visas.

A call center executive from the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP) confirmed this update, stating that the three-month visit visas are no longer available. The executive explained, “The three-month entry permit was available a few months ago, but not anymore. Visitors to the UAE can now come on a 30- or 60-day visa, with travel agencies having the capability to issue them.”

Travel agents operating in the region have echoed this statement. They revealed that the portal they use to issue permits no longer provides the option for a three-month visit visa.

A Historical Perspective

It’s essential to recognize that the discontinuation of the three-month visit visa isn’t entirely unprecedented. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the UAE introduced a 60-day visa option, temporarily shelving the three-month scheme. However, a subsequent relaxation in visa regulations in May saw the reintroduction of the three-month visa as a leisure option.

Who Qualifies for 90-Day Visas in Dubai?

While the discontinuation of the three-month visit visa affects many travelers, there is still an exception. In Dubai, the 90-day visa continues to be issued to individuals who are first-degree relatives of residents. In essence, residents of Dubai have the privilege of bringing their parents or relatives to the city on this extended three-month scheme.

A Temporary Halt

Industry professionals have suggested that the suspension of the three-month visit visas is temporary. Firoz Maliyakkal, founder and CEO of Tahira Tours and Travels, commented on the matter, saying, “As per the information we have received, the issuance of long-term leisure visas has been stopped temporarily. The demand for this visa was slightly increasing due to the winter months ahead.”

Alternative Visa Options

While the 90-day visa option is currently unavailable, there are alternative choices for visitors who wish to stay in the UAE for an extended period.

  1. Job Exploration Visa: The UAE offers a range of visa options for individuals seeking employment opportunities in the country. These visas enable holders to enter the UAE and search for work that aligns with their skills and expertise. This visa comes in three variations for 60, 90, and 120 days with a single-entry permit.
  2. 5-Year Multiple Entry Visa: This visa allows visitors to enter the UAE multiple times through self-sponsorship, with a 90-day stay granted during each visit. Visa holders can extend their stay for an additional 90 days without leaving the country, making it an attractive option for those wishing to spend extended periods with loved ones in the UAE.

These changes in the UAE’s visa policies demonstrate the dynamic nature of travel regulations. Travelers are encouraged to stay updated on the latest developments and consult with official sources for visa information, ensuring that their travel plans align with current requirements.
