The Czech government has called for the European Union to consider implementing travel restrictions on Russian diplomats entering the Schengen Area. At a recent meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský expressed his country’s support for the preparation of the next EU sanctions package against Russia.
As part of the proposed sanctions package, the Czech Republic suggested imposing movement restrictions on Russian diplomats and their family members within the Schengen Area. Minister Lipavský emphasized the need to limit the privileges of Russian diplomats and expressed commitment to advocating for the proposal to be included in the 13th sanctions package.
In addition to discussing the sanctions, the Foreign Affairs Council also addressed the situation in Ukraine. The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the importance of providing ongoing military and financial assistance to Ukraine in response to Russian aggression.
Minister Lipavský stressed the interconnectedness of Ukraine’s security with that of the European Union and emphasized the need for continued support in the face of Russian aggression.
The 13th package of sanctions against Russia is expected to be introduced soon, and it is likely to include restrictions targeting individuals and entities. The Czech Republic’s proposal for movement restrictions on Russian diplomats entering the Schengen Area is part of a larger effort to address Russian aggression and support Ukraine in its resistance efforts.
