COVID-19: Mexico Travel Restrictions Update
The widespread nature of the novel coronavirus pandemic popularly known as COVID-19 and its adverse effect on all sectors of the economy of a country has compelled most countries across the globe to close their countries to foreigners especially those who may want to visit for purposes such as tourism, visit and many others.
However, the situation differs when it comes to Mexico. Mexico, officially the United Mexican States, is a country in the southern portion of North America. It is bordered to the north by the United States; to the south and west by the Pacific Ocean; to the southeast by Guatemala, Belize, and the Caribbean Sea; and to the east by the Gulf of Mexico.
Unlike other countries that have closed their borders to foreigners as a result of the covid-19 pandemic, Mexico is still opened to foreigners for all purposes with terms and conditions attached. The following are requirements travelers must adhere to when visiting Mexico;
- Travelers can only enter Mexico by air. As part of its measurements to control imported cases of covid-19, Mexico has closed all its land borders to foreigners and as such all who wish to visit Mexico must do so by Air.
- All travelers once in Mexico must adhere to covid-19 protocols such as wearing nose masks, frequent hand washing, social distancing, and other local protocols.
Do You Need PCR Test To Enter Mexico?
Foreigners are not required to have a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test before entering Mexico, however, foreigners are required to fill and submit a mobile health questionnaire before they arrive in Mexico. Once it is completed, travelers receive a QR code to be scanned by officials at their arrival airport for entry. Health measures at the airport may also include temperature checks.
Quarantine Restrictions in Mexico?
Mexico unlike many countries does not compel travelers to undergo a mandatory quarantine when they visit Mexico, however, persons detected and suspected to be carrying the covid-19 virus would be quarantined.
