Canada has released new entry guidelines for supporters traveling to the FIFA World Cup 2026, including simple steps fans must follow when applying for a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).
According to the update, travellers will need either a visitor visa or an eTA, depending on their nationality and the method of entry into Canada. Ghanaian fans fall under the visa-required category and must apply for a visitor visa before travelling.
Canada is urging supporters to apply early. You don’t need a FIFA match ticket before submitting your application, and having one does not guarantee approval at the visa or eTA stage. Border officers will still make the final decision when you arrive.
The government has also asked applicants to indicate that they are travelling for the World Cup.
For eTA applicants, type “FIFA World Cup 26” in the Background Questions section.
For visa applicants, add “FIFA World Cup 26” in the Tell us more about what you’ll do in Canada section.
This note does not influence approval. It simply helps Canada track people entering for the tournament.
For Ghanaian supporters hoping to watch matches in Toronto, the message is simple: apply early, prepare your documents, and make sure your visa application clearly states your reason for travel.
