Canada and Ghana have signed their first air transport agreement, improving connectivity between the two countries. Transport Minister Anita Anand announced the deal to boost trade, tourism, and business between them.
- Both countries can designate multiple airlines to operate flights.
- Airlines can serve any destination in Canada and Ghana.
- The agreement allows 14 weekly passenger flights and 10 weekly cargo flights for each country.
- Airlines can start offering services immediately.
Minister Anand said, “Ghana is a growing market for Canada, and I am pleased to see this first agreement open the door to new opportunities for travellers and businesses in both countries. This agreement will connect more passengers and strengthen our cultural and commercial ties.”
The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, said the deal will help Canadian exporters expand into West Africa and promote tourism and trade between the two nations.
Trade between Canada and Ghana has been increasing. In 2023, two-way merchandise trade reached over $380 million, with Canadian exports totaling $281 million and imports from Ghana at $99.8 million.
Canada is expanding its air transport agreements under the Blue Sky policy. The goal is to increase competition and improve global travel options. Canada now has air transport agreements covering more than 125 countries.
Travellers and businesses can expect more flight options, better convenience, and increased trade as airlines begin services under the agreement.
