Initiated by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Festival 2025 is set to be a grand showcase of culture, heritage, and entertainment, bringing together people from all walks of life to celebrate the rich traditions of the Ashanti Kingdom. The festival runs from April 12 to April 26, 2025, with events focused on culture, education, tourism, and community growth.
The festival kicks off on April 12 with a massive cleanup exercise across all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), emphasizing the importance of environmental responsibility. This is followed by the launch of the Inter-District Soccer Games and an electrifying Boxing Night at Paa Joe Stadium, KNUST.
Cultural enthusiasts can look forward to the Akwasidae/Y33k)som at Manhyia on April 13, a revered traditional event that strengthens the connection between the Ashanti people and their heritage. On the same day, a Fashion Exhibition and Fashion Night at Rattray Park will showcase traditional and contemporary Ashanti fashion, celebrating local designers and creativity.
On April 14, young minds will be engaged in a Basic School Spelling Bee (English & Twi), an Inter-SHS Debate Competition, and a Science and Technology Fair at the Great Hall, KNUST. These events aim to promote academic excellence, critical thinking, and scientific exploration among students.
The festival also highlights Ashanti’s vibrant artistic and culinary culture. April 15 will see a Cultural Day with performances from traditional cultural groups and students, a lively Jama Festival, and a Food Fair/Bazaar at the Kumasi Cultural Center, where attendees can savor authentic Ashanti delicacies.
The festival also supports community health and development. On April 16, a Public Lecture and Panel Discussion on Ashanti Development will be held at Prempeh Assembly Hall, providing a platform for insightful discussions on the region’s growth and future.
Health is also a priority, with a Free Health Screening at Kumasi Central Prisons and a Blood Donation Drive at Kumasi City Mall on April 17. Later that evening, the festival will honor the legacy of Kumawood actors with a special Movie Night at Golden Eagle Cinemas.
The Ashanti Festival offers a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the region’s historical and natural sites. An Excursion and Carnival at Lake Bosomtwe on April 18 will allow tourists and locals to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and outdoor activities. The same day, a Kids Festival at Jubilee Park promises a day of fun and learning for children.
Art lovers and music enthusiasts are in for a treat on April 19, with the Kwabre Anwene3 Festival (Wood Carving & Adinkra) in Mamponteng, the Kente Festival in Bonwire, and the Ashanti Konnect Concert at Heroes Park, which will feature performances from top Ghanaian artists.
The festival culminates with events dedicated to philanthropy and honoring Ashanti’s legacy. On April 21, a Fundraising event with the Heal Komfo Anokye Team at Manhyia will raise funds for health initiatives. Finally, on April 26, the festival will conclude with a Thanksgiving and Celebration of 26 Years of Reign of HRM Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Anglican Cathedral, marking a significant moment in Ashanti history.
