The director of the Croatian National Tourist Board’s representative office in the USA, Leila Krešić-Jurić, expressed that Croatia’s fantastic nature, tradition, history, highly personalized experiences, and the aspect of safety are the key factors that attract American tourists to the country. The preference for quality and the significant economic contribution of these visitors position them as highly sought-after guests in the Croatian tourism industry.

At a recent New York fair hosting 500 exhibitors representing 170 countries, the Croatian National Tourist Board appeared as one of the prominent exhibitors and the most frequented one. Tour guide Sanja Čikato shared insights into the enjoyment of American tourists in Croatia, noting their tendency to enjoy the country’s simplicity and charm, especially in the city of Dubrovnik.

Furthermore, American tourists have shown a profound fascination upon learning about Croatia’s rich historical contributions, including the existence of a fourteenth-century pharmacy, pioneering quarantine practices, and the abolition of slavery in 1416—centuries ahead of the discovery of America.

The American market has significantly contributed to Croatia’s tourism, with a surge in arrivals and overnight stays. In 2023, a total of 645,000 arrivals and 1.8 million overnight stays by American tourists have been recorded, showing a remarkable growth of 33 percent in arrivals and 23 percent in overnight stays compared to the previous year.

Dubrovnik, Split, Zagreb, Hvar, and Rovinj have been the destinations where Americans have chosen to spend most of their nights, further solidifying Croatia’s status as a top choice for American tourists.
