Air Transat to start direct Toronto – Accra flights in summer 2026

Air Transat will launch direct flights between Toronto and Accra in the summer of 2026, giving Ghana its first non-stop air link with Canada. The Montreal-based leisure airline, which was named World’s Best Leisure Airline by Skytrax in 2025, will operate the new service from 17 June to 22 October 2026 with two flights a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

This will be the first and only direct connection between Canada and Ghana. Until now, travellers have had to connect through European or other North American hubs, often with long layovers. With the new route, passengers will be able to fly straight between Toronto Pearson and Kotoka International Airport without changing planes in Europe.

Sebastian Ponce, Chief Revenue Officer at Transat, said the Toronto–Accra route fits into the airline’s growth strategy on the African continent and responds directly to the needs of the Ghanaian community in Ontario, as well as the rising interest in travel to Ghana. He stressed that the non-stop service will simplify journeys by removing the long European stopovers that many passengers have been used to.

Ghana’s Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, welcomed the announcement and described Air Transat’s flights from Toronto to Accra as more than just trips in the sky, calling them a connection between aspirations and reality for travellers.

Accra becomes Air Transat’s fourth destination in Africa, joining Dakar and Agadir, alongside its year-round operation to Marrakech. The addition of Ghana shows how important the African market has become for the airline, both for diaspora travel and for holidaymakers looking for new destinations.

For Ghanaians living in Canada, especially in Ontario, the new link will make it easier to visit family and friends back home without the stress of extra transits and long layovers. For Canadians, it opens a more direct path to explore Ghana’s culture, history, festivals, and beaches.

For now, Air Transat has scheduled the Toronto–Accra service for the summer 2026 season only, from mid-June to late October. The airline has not yet said whether the route will continue beyond that period, so its return in future seasons will likely depend on demand and how well the flights perform. Jetsanza.com will follow developments on the route, including fares, booking trends, and any updates on whether this seasonal service could become a regular feature of Ghana–Canada travel.
