Kenkey is a Ghanaian traditional food prepared and eaten predominantly by the Gas in the coastal areas of the Greater Accra region of Ghana.

While the food is considered the traditional food of the Ga people, it is sold and eaten all over the country today, in all the 16 regions of Ghana, making it one of Ghana’s most popular local dishes aside fufu and banku.

Kenkey is primarily prepared with fermented corn dough mixed with large volumes of water. The mixed corn dough is then moulded into a small round shape and then covered with the husk of maize after which it is put in any large metallic or aluminium silver and then placed on fire. It usually lasts longer on fire than the average Ghanaian food.
