The world’s leading travel trade show, ITB Berlin 2025, officially opens its doors from March 4 to 6, bringing together a record-breaking 5,800 exhibitors from over 170 countries. With fully booked halls and a five percent increase in participation compared to 2024, the event underscores the travel industry’s strong recovery and continued global expansion. The ITB Buyers Circle, hosting 1,300 senior buyers, reflects the growing confidence in the sector’s future.
This year’s edition highlights significant growth in key travel segments such as cruises and travel technology, alongside notable expansion in the markets of Southern Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Arab states. Albania takes center stage as the official host country, showcasing its tourism potential under the theme ‘Albania All Senses.’
Industry Recovery Confirmed by Positive Travel Trends
According to the latest World Travel Monitor® report by IPK International, outbound travel in 2024 increased by 13 percent, reaching pre-pandemic levels last seen in 2019. The rebound is particularly strong in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) segment and Asian outbound travel, with positive trends observed in Europe, Latin America, and North America.
Spain remains the most popular global destination, followed by the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Mexico, Turkey, the UK, and Austria. Sun and beach holidays, city breaks, and round trips continue to see high demand. Meanwhile, a shift toward direct bookings and alternative accommodations highlights travelers’ growing preference for flexibility and personalized experiences.
“The optimistic outlook at ITB Berlin reflects the industry’s overall momentum. With high exhibitor participation, innovative show formats, and extensive networking opportunities, this year’s event sets the stage for continued tourism growth,” said Dr. Mario Tobias, CEO of Messe Berlin.
Albania Showcases Immersive Tourism Experiences
As this year’s official host country, Albania is making a grand statement with its 800-square-meter exhibition space in Hall 3.1. Emphasizing its untouched natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, Albania presents itself as a destination offering authentic experiences, from farm-to-table agritourism to adventure tourism expansions in Hall 4.1. A new agritourism app is also being introduced to help visitors explore Albania in a more interactive and personalized way.
A major highlight of ITB Berlin 2025 is Albania’s opening ceremony, which will take guests on a journey through the country’s landscapes and traditions. High-profile attendees include Dieter Janecek, Germany’s Federal Coordinator for Maritime Economy and Tourism, Berlin’s Governing Mayor Kai Wegner, WTTC President Julia Simpson, UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, and ITB Berlin host Dr. Mario Tobias.
