Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) holds category-based selection draws for Express Entry candidates with expertise in specific fields. The focus is on professions in healthcare, science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), trades, transport, agriculture, and agri-food. IRCC plans to put more emphasis on recruiting STEM professions, with between 28 and 31 percent of invitations through Express Entry expected to go to people with experience in certain STEM jobs such as software developers and data scientists.

Randstad, a multinational recruitment agency, recently published an article highlighting well-paid career paths in Canada’s tech sector, with the average IT role paying around $87,300 per year and the top 10% earning around $123,250 annually.

A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is often a minimum requirement.
