Most Ghanaians think one needs over GHS 20,000 to be able to pay for a visa and travel ticket for their dream vacation abroad. It’s not so.

One might have paid such huge monies out of ignorance. It’s always advisable to avoid visa contractors or connection men when planning your trip abroad. The websites of the various embassies provide enough information on what one needs to obtain visas. Make use of such resources.

Jetsanza.com brings to you some of the hottest destinations of Ghanaians and how much it costs to travel to these places.

The fares below are for a 2-week travel (round trip) from December 23, 2019, to January 6, 2019.  Other dates may come with different fares; lower or higher. Also, note that figures quoted below do not include accommodation, food, shopping or any other item not mentioned.

Countries and the cost of Visa and Air Ticket:

South Africa – GHS 2,989

Visa Fees: GHC 136 and a ridiculous VFS FeesSA Visas and the ridiculous VFS Service fees of GHC 315. Ticket on Kenya Airways is GHS 2,538. In all one needs GHS 2,989 to land in SA. For updated visa fees, visit the VFS website.

United Kingdom – GHS 5,359

The UK is one of the cheapest destinations one could travel to from Ghana. Visa application fee is GHS 694 (USD 128. Additional charges may apply depending on other premium or assisted services chosen). Ethiopian Airline flies passengers on the proposed dates for only GHS4,665. With just GHS 5,359, you could see yourself touring the Buckingham Palace.

Europe/Schengen States – GHS 4,958

Schengen tourist visa costs EUR60; however, some embassies use the services of VFS Global, which come with extra charges. The Netherlands, Spain and Italy are some of the countries that employ the services of VFS. Using the Netherlands as an example, VFS charges GHS 90 and Visa Fee is GHS 361. See updated Visa fees HERE. Air Maroc is the cheapest on the route on our chosen dates. Ticket costs GHS 4,357. Travel Insurance is required for travels to the Schengen area. Most insurance companies charge approximately GHS 150 for a two-week insurance cover. In all, one needs GHS 4,958 to be in the Netherlands.

Remember to check out the S33x (Adult) Museum in Amsterdam. You may not find it anywhere else.

Canada – GHS 8,875

Fares to Canada relatively high. Turkish Airlines are the cheapest on the dates chosen at GHS 8,472. Visa Fees cost C$100 (GHS 403). Updated visa fees.

United States – GHS 6,026

Did you hear somewhere you need so much money to visit the United States? NO! That isn’t so. Though it might be difficult obtaining visa, you need far less than GHS 10,000 to walk in the streets of New York. The fare on Air Maroc is GHS 5,130 while the embassy charges GHS 896.00 as Visa fees. So you need only GHS 6,026 to see the United States this April. Updated visa fees.

China – GHS 4,654

Fare on Ethiopian Airlines is GHS 4,384. Visa Fee is $50 (GHS 270). Updated visa fees.

Kenya – GHS 3,245

Kenya is visa-free for Ghanaian passport holders. Ticket on Rwandair is GHS 3,245.

Remember your Yellow Fever Vaccination Card.

Rwanda – GHS 2,651

Rwanda too is visa-free. Kenya Airways carries passengers for as low as GHS 2,651.

India – GHS 5,294

Ghanaians can obtain eVisas for $80 (GHS 424). Ticket on Ethiopian Airlines costs GHS 4,870.

Malaysia – GHS 6,759

Visa Fee is GHS 177, and cheapest airline on the selected dates is Emirates with tickets from GHS 6,582. Updated visa fees.

Singapore – GHS 6,739

Singapore is visa-free. You only grab your air ticket. It’s GHS 6,739 on Ethiopian Airlines.
