Alberta, a province in Canada, is known for its incredible outdoor activities and natural beauty. Bordered by British Columbia to the west and Saskatchewan to the east, it is a popular destination for immigrants with over 1 million people having settled in Alberta. The province’s largest Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs) include Calgary, Edmonton, and Lethbridge.

For those planning on moving to Alberta, one of the key considerations is housing. With over 4.6 million Canadians living in Alberta, newcomers often turn to the rental market for housing. The average rental cost for a one-bedroom apartment in Calgary is $1,728, while in Edmonton it is $1,279, and in Lethbridge, it averages at $1,181.

Getting around in Alberta is made easy with at least 71% of residents in each of the three largest CMAs having easy access to public transportation. Calgary and Edmonton have train transit systems, and the majority of residents use a car, van, or truck for their daily commutes.

Employment in Alberta is primarily in trade occupations, healthcare and social assistance, and construction. There are resources such as ALIS and Alberta Supports to help newcomers find employment opportunities in the province.

Healthcare in Alberta has a three-month waiting period for newcomers, after which they can obtain free healthcare with a valid provincial health card. Education in Alberta is mandatory for children and is provided through public schools, private schools, and post-secondary institutions.

Taxation in Alberta includes a 5% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on sales, along with an income tax based on a bracketed system. Additionally, the province offers settlement services to newcomers with resources available to assist with the settlement process.

Overall, Alberta is a province with a thriving economy, natural beauty, and a welcoming environment for newcomers. If you are considering a move to Canada, Alberta is definitely worth exploring.
