German universities accept German language tests

If you wish to study in Germany, it is essential to be proficient in either English or the German language. German Universities offer both English and German-taught programs, so it is a basic requirement of an admission application to provide English or German language test certificates.

List of German Language Tests Accepted by German Universities

#1 DSH Test
The DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang) test is a standardized examination that tests the ability of international students. The DSH Certificate is widely accepted by many German universities as proof of language proficiency. It consists of an oral exam (30%) and a written exam (70%). The DSH offers proficiency levels in Basic German (A1, A2), Intermediate German (B1), and Advanced German (C1, C2).

#2 TestDaF Test
The TestDaF is a standard examination that tests the skills of international students in the German language. It has four sections: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. It provides certificates for levels CEFR B2.1 – C1.3, including TDN 3, TDN 4, and TDN 5.

#3 Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom (GDS) Test
This major diploma in the German language checks the advanced ability of foreign students in the language. It is the most accepted language certificate by German institutions for admission and offers proficiency equivalent to CEFR level C2.

#4 Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz (DSD) Test
The DSD is a diploma in the German language from the Education Minister Conference. It offers certificates for levels CEFR B2/C1 (DSD I) and CEFR C2 (DSD II), which are widely recognized by German universities.

#5 Telc Test
The Telc test is based on CEFR and offers certificates for proficiency in the German language. The Telc C1 certificate is widely accepted by German institutes as proof of sufficient language skills.

These tests are essential for proving your proficiency in the German language when applying to universities in Germany.
