Differences Between Visitor Visa and Super Visa

The Canadian Super Visa is specifically designed for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Unlike the regular visitor visa, the Super Visa allows eligible parents and grandparents to stay in Canada and visit family for 5 years at a time. This is a major advantage compared to the visitor visa, which only allows for a stay of up to 6 months at a time.

The visitor visa, also known as a temporary resident visa, is necessary for most travelers to Canada. It is an official document that allows travelers to meet the requirements needed to travel to Canada. Visitors can stay for up to 6 months, with the possibility of the border services officer allowing for a shorter or longer stay.

On the other hand, the Super Visa allows for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to visit their family for up to five consecutive years without renewing their visitor status. Super Visa holders can enter Canada multiple times for up to 10 years, making it a viable alternative to the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).

To be eligible for the Super Visa, an applicant must be a parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. The applicant and their spouse must not be inadmissible to Canada on the basis of criminality or health. Additionally, the applicant must have medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company that covers at least $100,000 of emergency coverage and is valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry.

Once the applicant determines that they are eligible and has all the required documentation, the application should be processed at the Canadian visa office responsible for the application’s place of residence outside Canada. If you need assistance with the Super Visa application process, you can get a free Super Visa telephone consultation with the Cohen Immigration Law Firm.
