President of Botswana Mokgweetsi Masisi has nudged all African countries to come together to work towards achieving sustainable tourism economies on the continent.

H.E. Mokgweetsi Masisi made this momentous call during the 5th Africa Tourism Leadership Forum at the GICC in Botswana on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

According to him, one of the ways Africans can boost and sustain its tourism sector is to work together, collaborate and forge partnerships.

He stated that tourism is dynamic in a competitive industry that requires the ability to constantly adapt to customers’ changing needs and desires as consumer satisfaction, safety, and enjoyment are the focus of tourism businesses.

He noted that: “Tourism is experiencing rapid change, disrupted by advancing technology and shifting customer expectations – something we should work on as a collective. “

H.E. Mokgweetsi Masisi continued: “A new generation of tourists is emerging, and the hospitality and tourism sector is undergoing fundamental shifts in the way it operates, occasioned by changing global economies as well as government policies to operational efficiencies, and the need for seamless technology to delivering a flawless guest experience.”

“To adapt to constant change, industries are looking to adapt strategies to future proof their businesses and to navigate rapidly changing technological landscapes.

I, therefore, urge you to take this time to have an in-depth analysis of the trends and forecasts influencing travel patterns and how you can take advantage of the opportunities that they bring to us in the tourism sector,” he stated.

He concluded: “Working together, forging partnerships and collaborations is key to building sustainable tourism economies.”
