Werewere soup, known internationally as the melon seed soup, is a Ghanaian delicacy which is mostly used as a substitute for groundnut soup. It is very delicious and can be served with rice, banku, fufu, and boiled plantain.
Aside from its delightful taste, the soup is rich in magnesium, and that facilitate and regulate nerve and muscle functions.
It is also suitable for blood cells formations because it is rich in vitamins; it also aids in the creation of bone marrows. Most Ghanaians love it because they believe its rich nutrients prevent congenital disability. Follow the procedures below to know how to cook the melon seed soup.

- A cup of melon seeds
- Dried fish
- 1 Sachet of Seasoning Powder or Cube
- Salt
- Smoked Mackerel
- Assorted Meats
- 2 Onions
- 2 Fresh Tomatoes
- 3 Hot Peppers
- 1 Ginger
Instructions
- Dry and roast melon seeds for 15 minutes, ensure colour changes to deep brown.
- Cook seeds after roast
- Pour cooked seeds into a blender, add a reasonable amount of water and blend
- Sieve blended seeds.
- Cook the blended melon seed juice for 10 minutes.
- Now cut onions, pepper and ginger
- Blended with the onions, ginger and pepper
- In a different cooking pot, add meat, salt and seasoning powder, and then you finally add the blended pepper, ginger and onions.
- Let the meat and the seasonings simmer for like 10 minutes
- You can now add your blended melon seeds juice
- Wash your dried fish and together with the smoked mackerel add it to the soup
- Let it boil till the oil in the soup begins to foam
