Mole National Park
Mole National Park is Ghana’s first wildlife reserve located in the Northern part of Ghana, specifically in the West Gonja district of Ghana. It is the biggest National Park in Ghana and covers an area of 4, 912km2. It is 24 km from Damongo, the district capital, 146km south-east of Tamale, the Regional capital. It houses several elephants and several mammals such as antelope, monkeys, warthogs, baboons and others. There are also several species of birds, reptiles and amphibians in this park.
Apart from being a habitat for several wildlife, it serves as a water catchment area, where most streams and rivers either take their source from within or drain through the park and empty into the White Volta.
Larabanga Mosque
Larabanga Mosque is located in the village of Larabanga in the Northern part of Ghana. Built in the Sudano-Sahelian architectural style, this Mosque is the oldest mosque in Ghana and one of the oldest in the West Africa Sub Region. It has been one of the top destinations for many tourists visiting the Northern Region of Ghana. It is built primarily from parked earth and has undergone several rehabilitations up to now.
It is one the Ghana’s most preserved religious sites and often referred to as the Mecca of Ghana.
Gambaga Escarpment
Gambaga Escarpment is located in the town of Nakpanduri in the Bunkpurugu-Nyankpanduri District of Ghana.
This is a line of cliffs that runs about 100km from Walewale to the Ghana-Togo border at Tusugu. The cliffs are composed of horizontal layers of sandstone rising over 300 meters high.
The scarp forms the elevated northern boundary of the Volta River basin and the eastern section of the granite plateaus of Wa and Mamprusi. Its epic sceneries make it a favourite tourist destination in the Region.
Salaga Slave Market
During the trans-Atlantic slave time, the Salaga slave market used to be the largest slave market in West Africa where humans were sold in exchange for cowries. It is located in the Town of Salaga in the Northern Region of Ghana.
This site has since been recognized as one of the most important tourist landmarks in Ghana. in the 17th Century, this slave market was very noted for trading all kinds of goods: kola, beads, ostrich, feathers, gold, textiles, etc.
Daboya Township
It is a very famous town in the Northern part of Ghana. Daboya is majorly noted for the salt mining in Ghana. Apart from Salt Mining, the town is noted for hand-woven traditional textiles.
The White Volta runs nearby and tourists can go for boat riding and fishing.
