Eastern Premier Hotel, Koforidua – Ghana, Review By Akesse Sanza

Located in the best city to live in Ghana (arguably), Eastern Premier Hotel is the first landmark that welcomes visitors to Koforidua. The 3-star hotel is popular for hosting conferences and housing conference participants, making Koforidua the preferred host city for conferences in Ghana.

Having stayed in some of the ‘top’ hotels in Ghana, I did not have high expectations and preconceived that my experience wouldn’t be any different but Eastern Premier Hotel proved otherwise.  The hotel ticked YES for almost everything on my checklist as seen in the tables in this post.

From its location, spacious parking space, welcoming staff, neat rooms, and all the amenities one would expect from a hotel, Eastern Premier Hotel seeks to exceed the expectations of guests.

The hotel rooms are moderately priced and what you see in the photos online is exactly what you get.

Breakfast

To be frank, I wasn’t expecting the breakfast to be any better than that of Paloma Hotel because most hotels in Ghana are used to serving just hot water and tea/Milo/coffee for breakfast. The breakfast at Eastern Premier Hotel brought back memories of my stay in Maldives and RH Hotel in Pretoria, South Africa.

Eastern Premier Hotel serves a buffet breakfast with a variety of foods; Ghanaian and English, bread and pastries, fruits, etc, and none runs out. Tumeric bread, sweet bread, cake bread, wheat bread, butter bread, tea bread, and several others were available.

Note that Koforidua has the most popular bakery in Ghana, B Foster Bread. The image B Foster has created for Koforidua might have influenced the long line-up of different types of bread for the hotel guests.

The only missing items in the breakfast buffet were fruit juice and yogurt. Fruit Juice can be purchased by guests but adding this to the breakfast would have every single guest rating them 10/10. If you’ve never had a fruit salad with yogurt dressing in a hotel, then that won’t even cross your mind. So it’s not a big deal.

Staff

There is always someone to talk to when assistance is needed. The hotel staff is ready to assist and hurridly provide the assistance requested. Apart from the doorman, smiling isn’t a thing among the staff.

Why are Ghanaian employees not smiling? It looks like only business owners smile when welcoming their customers.

Cleanliness

Thumbs up to all those involved in keeping the hotel and its rooms clean. Everything is on point as far as cleanliness is concerned. Everything looks new; duvet and duvet covers, pillow and cases, chairs, towels, desks, everything.

Value for money

With all these boxes ticked YES, it means Eastern Premier Hotel gives value for money. The rooms are moderately priced and if you compare them to other hotels, you feel like they are providing more than what you paid them.

Location

Eastern Premier Hotel’s location makes it easily accessible even to those using public transport. Guests coming from Accra alight right in front of the hotel and can also catch a ‘trotro’ right there when returning.
