Germany Eases Immigration Rules for Skilled Workers

The Government of Germany has announced plans to ease immigration rules for international skilled workers to find jobs in Germany. This decision comes in response to a survey conducted by the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) that reported 1.74 million vacant job positions in Germany last year (Ref: Euronews). With the aim of filling employee shortages with foreign qualified skilled workers, the German government is offering a big opportunity for job seekers to land high paying jobs in Germany with a residence permit.

The new German job opportunity card, named “chancenkarte” by the German government, is a residence permit that will be issued to international skilled workers to allow them to stay in Germany for long-term job purposes. The “chancenkarte” will be a skilled worker points-based evaluation system in which international skilled job applicants will compete based on German language proficiency, age, professional experience, and qualifications.

As per the new policy, the chancenkarte is going to be a free style job searching German job card VISA for all international skilled workers to enter Germany to look for a job while residing in Germany. This chancenkarte aims to allow German companies and government departments to hire skilled professional workers from around the world for their unfilled job positions.

The chancenkarte opportunity card of Germany will allow individuals to live in Germany for one year to search for full-time employment while providing evidence to the immigration department of Germany that they have enough expense to support their living in Germany. Additionally, holders of the chancenkarte will be permitted to work part-time for up to 20 hours per week in Germany in case they are unable to find a full-time job opportunity.

Occupations in fields of catering, craftsmanship, information technology, nursing, engineering, hospitality, manufacturing, production, warehouse, heavy machinery operations, retail and construction businesses, healthcare, metallurgy, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries are in high demand in Germany in 2023, according to the IFO survey.

For skilled workers in these sectors with the required qualifications and experience, this is a great opportunity to apply for the German chancenkarte once it’s made available by the German immigration department. So, if you have been considering working in Germany, now is the time to explore the new opportunities that will be available to international skilled workers in Germany.
