Cefalu is a coastal city located in the Northern part of the Italian province Sicily. The town is literally named after or by its natural settings. The Norman Cathedral
In Cefalu, the Norman Cathedral is mostly the first stop for tourists when they visit the ancient but beautiful town in Sicily. The legend behind the construction of the Norman Cathedral is that the Norman King, King Roger II was hit and trapped in a fierce sea storm, for fear of losing his life, the king made a pact with God to build for him a cathedral should he arrived safely at the harbour.
The king was able to survive the storm and decided to honour his promise by building the Cathedral. The architecture of the Cathedral depicts Arab, Roman and Greek cultures.
The Museo Mandralisca
Aside from the Norman cathedral, Cefalu is home to the historic Museo Mandralisca. The museum is home to some of the world’s most prestigious artworks and artefact. The museum houses a picture gallery with a portrait by famous painter Antonello da Messina.
The beaches of Mazzaforno and Settefrati lie to the west
Tourists who visit the coastal land of Cefalu never miss out on the beaches of Mazzaforno and Settefrati. The beaches lie to the west of Cefalu. The beaches are recognized and famous for their blue waters and white sands. The best time to visit the beach is from April through to June and October. During the period the sun is blazing hot, a perfect time for a beach stroll and sandbathe.
