Canada has become a hot destination for international students due to its excellent educational institutions, international credibility, and work and immigration opportunities. But what really makes Canada an attractive destination for students is its relatively low tuition fees and favorable exchange rate which makes education at Canadian institutions more affordable for international students.

In addition to lower tuition fees, Canadian government provides bursaries and scholarships to international students, a feature that sets Canada apart from other popular educational destinations. The Government of Canada also has a scholarship search tool that can help students check their eligibility for financial awards from the Canadian government, foreign governments, and third-party organisations.

When it comes to studying in Canada, there are important eligibility criteria to consider. International students are required to be enrolled in an educational institution in their home country with a valid student exchange program with the Canadian institution, not be enrolled in a degree program at a Canadian post-secondary institution, and not hold or have a pending application for Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.

Furthermore, the school that the international student will be attending in Canada must be a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) authorized to accept international students.

The Government of Canada provides various federal scholarships and bursaries for new international students, such as the Study in Canada Scholarships, Canada-ASEAN Scholarships, and the Emerging Leaders in America Program. These programs offer financial rewards ranging from $8,200 to $12,700 for undergraduate and graduate level studies.

Eligibility criteria for these awards include being a citizen of a qualifying country or region, being a full-time student at a post-secondary institution in any of the eligible countries or regions, and being liable for paying tuition fees to the institution for the entire duration of the exchange program.

Students who are selected for any of these awards may use scholarship funds towards various expenses including visa or study/work permit fees, airfare, health insurance, living expenses, transportation, and books and supplies required for their study or research.

Canada also offers other scholarship awards for post-doctoral and graduate students, students from China, the Americas, and more. Many Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) also offer financial awards for their international students.
