Canada Immigration Adjusts Cost-of-Living Requirement for Study Permit Applicants
Good news for future international students looking to study in Canada! Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced that, starting January 1, 2024, the cost-of-living requirement for study permit applicants will be increasing to $20,635. This update marks a significant change from the previous requirement of $10,000 set in the early 2000s.
IRCC’s decision to adjust the cost-of-living requirement is a response to the outdated financial requirement that no longer accurately represents the actual cost of living in Canada for students. In line with economic conditions, IRCC plans to adjust the cost-of-living requirement annually to reflect the changes in Statistics Canada’s low-income-cut off (LICO).
