Studying abroad in high-ranked universities with a funded scholarship is a dream for many students. However, when applying for a scholarship, some universities require an English Proficiency Certificate, which can be a challenge for students who do not have IELTS or TOEFL certificates. The good news is that some universities accept a certificate of English Proficiency issued from your last university, eliminating the need for IELTS or TOEFL certificates.

An English Proficiency Certificate is a document issued by the university stating that your last attended university was English medium and all courses were taught in English. It also certifies that you are fluent and have a good command of English. This document allows students to apply for scholarships without having to take an English skills test such as IELTS or TOEFL.

To obtain your English Proficiency Certificate, you must visit the university where you completed your last degree. You can find a focal person in your department, such as a professor, lecturer, or head of the department, who will provide you with the certificate. While the certificate is usually free, some universities may charge a fee for it.

While a certificate from your university may replace the need for an IELTS score in some cases, it is essential to check the specific requirements of the program or institution you are applying to determine whether they accept a university-issued English proficiency certificate in replacement of an IELTS score.

Many countries and scholarship programs accept proof of English language proficiency as part of the application process. Some examples include Germany, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, Italy, Japan (MEXT Scholarship), Europe (Erasmus Scholarship), Australia (some universities), and Canada (some universities). It is important to note that requirements for English proficiency may vary depending on the country and the specific scholarship program. It is always a good idea to check the eligibility criteria for the program you are applying to determine whether proof of English proficiency is required.
