American comedian, author, television show host and actor, Broderick Stephen Harvey, popularly known on television as Steve Harvey, has arrived in Ghana to take part in the historic Year of Return project launched by the government of Ghana, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Art.
Unlike other Hollywood stars who have visited Ghana this year, Steve Harvey’s arrival was not publicized and made known to the majority of Ghanaians except for a few key players in the tourism sector. However, a video of his arrival at the airport and being welcomed by the sector minister, Barbara Gyasi went viral on social media, drawing people’s attention to the arrival of the Hollywood icon.
Steve Harvey is not the first Hollywood celebrity to have visited Ghana this year as we celebrate 400 years since the first African slave was taken from the coast of Ghana, (then known as Gold Coast) to the Americas.
Celebrities including actor Michael Jai White, Boris Kodjoe, Anthony Anderson and Idris Elba have all visited Ghana this year to take part in the Year of Return celebration.
It remains unknown what the activities of Steve Harvey would be as there is little information regarding his visit, but like most of the celebrities who came to Ghana, we can almost certainly expect him to tour some of the historic tourist attractions in the country.
