What we know is that a Schengen visa allows the holder to travel to the 26 Schengen member countries. However, there are more countries that can be visited outside the Schengen area. At least an additional 33 countries can be visited visa-free by holders of Schengen visas.
Some of these countries either require you to obtain an e-Visa, arrive at certain airports, or flying with certain airlines. Others also issue visas to travellers on arrival.
Below is the tall list of countries holders of Schengen visa can visit visa-free:
North America
Mexico
Holders of valid Schengen visa can stay in Mexico for 180 days.
Central America
Belize
Passengers with a valid visa issued by a Schengen Member State are exempt from obtaining visas and can stay in Belize for a maximum of 90 days.
El Salvador
Schengen visa holders do not need a visa to enter El Salvador and can stay for up to 90 days. This does not apply to nationals of Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Armenia, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Cameroon, Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Haiti, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Mali, Mongolia, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Taiwan, Timor-Leste, Vietnam and Yemen who also can’t obtain a visa on a simplified procedure but their application needs to be approved in El Salvador.
Guatemala
Visa is not required for a maximum stay of 90 days within 180 days for valid visa holders or residents of the European Union member states. This does not apply to nationals of Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Armenia, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Cameroon, China, Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Macau, Mali, Mongolia, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, North Korea, Oman, Palestine, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Timor-Leste, Vietnam and Yemen, as well as holders of ordinary passports of Cuba, Haiti, Jordan, Kenya and Pakistan. Visas issued to nationals of these countries are subject to restrictions and additional processing in Guatemala
Honduras
Holders of valid Schengen visas can visit Honduras for a maximum stay of 90 days. This does not apply to nationals of Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Armenia, Bangladesh, Botswana, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cuba, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Mali, Mongolia, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Timor-Leste, Venezuela, Vietnam and Yemen.
Nicaragua
Visa is not required for a maximum stay of 90 days within 180 days for valid visa holders or residents of the European Union member states. This policy does not apply to nationals of China, Cuba, and Iran.
Asia
Philippines
Nationals of China travelling as tourists and holding a valid Schengen visa may enter and stay without a visa for up to 7 days. Citizens of India holding a valid tourist, business or resident visa issued by a Schengen Area state may enter and stay without a visa for up to 14 days.
Taiwan
Taiwan’s free entry for holders of Schengen visas is limited to citizens of Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam. Travellers are to apply for an R.O.C. (Taiwan) Travel Authorization Certificate from the National Immigration Agency, Ministry of the Interior in before embarking on their trip.
Europe
Turkey
Holders of Schengen Visas do not go through the struggle of obtaining Turkish visa that may require they submit documents and wait for days. Travellers may get their single entry e-Visas valid for one month via the website www.evisa.gov.tr once they are willing to travel on Turkish Airlines.
Albania
Any visitor to Albania who holds a valid, multiple-entry and previously used visa issued by a Schengen area country can enter Albania without a visa for 90 days.
Andorra
Andorra has no visa requirements, so all nationals do not require a visa. Only a passport or European Union national identity card is required for entrance. However, since Andorra is only accessible via the Schengen countries of Spain or France, entry is not possible without entering Spain or France first. So visitors need to obtain a multi-entry Schengen visa to be able to access Andorra through Spain or France and to be able to exit through same.
Belarus
Nationals of Gambia, Haiti, India, Lebanon, Namibia, Samoa, Vietnam can stay for up to 30 days once they are in possession of a multiple entry visa (i.e., a ‘C’ or ‘D’ type visa) from a European Union or Schengen area member country, an entry stamp from one of these countries and a valid air ticket with departure from Minsk National Airport.
Bulgaria
Holders of a Schengen visa may travel to Bulgaria without an additional visa, for a stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period (except nationals of Turkey and Azerbaijan travelling to Cyprus, who still need a Cypriot visa).
Croatia
Holders of a Schengen visa may travel to Croatia without an additional visa, for a stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period (except nationals of Turkey and Azerbaijan travelling to Cyprus, who still need a Cypriot visa).
Cyprus
Holders of a Schengen visa may travel to Cyprus without an additional visa, for a stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period except nationals of Turkey and Azerbaijan travelling who still need a Cypriot visa.
Georgia
Holders of valid Schengen visas can visit Georgia for stays of maximum 90 days in a 180-day period.
Kosovo
Visa is not required for citizens of any country with a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa or a valid biometric residence permit from a Schengen State. They may stay in Kosovo for 15 days.
Monaco
Monaco does not have a visa policy, but under its customs union with France, its territory is in the Schengen area and as such Schengen visa policy applies. Holders of valid Schengen visa are eligible to enter Monaco for a stay permitted by their visas.
Montenegro
Nationals of any country may visit Montenegro without a visa for up to 30 days if they hold a passport with visas issued by a Schengen Area member state, or if they are permanent residents of those countries.
Romania
Holders of a Schengen visa may travel to Romania without an additional visa, for a stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period (except nationals of Turkey and Azerbaijan travelling to Cyprus, who still need a Cypriot visa).
Serbia
As of November 2014, valid visa holders and residents of the European Union and Schengen Area member states can enter Serbia without a visa for a maximum stay of 90 days within 180 days, provided the visa remains valid for the entire length of stay.
San Marino
San Marino is only accessible via Italy and as such it’s not possible without entering the Schengen Area first. Holders of valid multiple-entry Schengen visa can stay for up to 10 days. Foreign visitors staying more than ten days in San Marino must have a permit from the government.
Macedonia (The Former Yugoslav Republic)
Holders of a valid Type “C” multiple entry visa or Residence Permit for the Schengen Area may enter Macedonia for up to 15 days visa-free. A temporary residence permit is also accepted since February 27th 2019.
Africa
Sao Tome and Principe
Holders of a visa or resident permit issued by a Schengen area member state do not require a visa for stays up to 15 days.
UK
Gibraltar (British Overseas Territory)
This country is limited to citizens of China, India, Mongolia, Morocco and Russia holding a Schengen multiple entry visa with a minimum remaining validity of 7 days (for a stay of up to 21 days in Gibraltar).
The Caribbean
Aruba
Nationals of any country can enter Aruba for a maximum of 90 days provided holding a valid visa or residence permit for a Schengen country.
Bahamas
All citizens with a visa issued by a Schengen Member State can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 90 days.
Curaçao
Nationals of any country can enter Curaçao for a maximum of 90 days provided holding a valid visa or residence permit for a Schengen country.
Sint Maarten
Nationals of any country can enter Sint Maarten for a maximum of 90 days provided holding a valid visa or residence permit for a Schengen country.
Antigua and Barbuda
Holders of valid Schengen visas are granted 30-day visa on arrival.
South America
Peru
Nationals of China and India who hold a Schengen visa with a minimum validity of more than six months can stay in Peru for a maximum of 180 days during a six-month period.
Argentina
Schengen visa holders can obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (AVE) at the cost of US$50 before travelling to Argentina. The validity of Schengen visas must be more than three months. The processing time is ten business days
Colombia
Schengen visas holders can enter Colombia and stay up to 90 days provided the Schengen visa is valid for at least 180 days from the arrival date.
