Turkish Airlines, Türkiye’s national carrier, has announced plans to offer free and unlimited Wi-Fi service to all passengers across its entire fleet within the next two years. This significant enhancement in in-flight connectivity was unveiled at the Farnborough Airshow in the U.K., where the airline signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Türkiye’s state-owned satellite company Türksat and its subsidiary, TCI Aircraft Interiors.
“Stay connected at 30,000 feet! In partnership with TCI Aircraft Interiors and Türksat, we will bring free and unlimited Wi-Fi to our entire fleet by the end of 2025. We’re integrating the latest in-flight connectivity tech to keep you online,” Turkish Airlines announced on X.
Turkish Airlines Chairperson Ahmet Bolat, General Manager Bilal Ekşi, and Türksat General Manager Hasan Hüseyin Ertok attended the signing ceremony at the airshow.
The project, set to commence later this year and completed within two years, aims to upgrade the existing fleet with the latest in-flight connectivity (IFC) technologies and equip new aircraft with more efficient IFC systems. This initiative will ensure all passengers enjoy unlimited, uninterrupted, faster Wi-Fi service at no additional cost.
Additionally, Turkish Airlines showcased its new business class suite at the same aviation event. This upgrade is part of the carrier’s continuous efforts to enhance passenger experience and maintain its reputation for exceptional service.
In the first half of 2024, Turkish Airlines reported a 4.8% increase in passenger numbers, carrying 40.6 million travelers. The airline operates a fleet of 458 aircraft, including passenger and cargo planes, and plans to nearly double this number by 2033.
In 2023, Turkish Airlines secured a major deal with Airbus for 230 aircraft and is currently in discussions with Boeing for an additional 200 jets. However, negotiations over maintenance costs with engine supplier General Electric Co. have delayed the finalization of the Boeing order. Chairperson Ahmet Bolat expressed optimism about resolving these issues soon, stating, “Once they move, we will sign the deal.”
The anticipated Boeing order includes up to 175 Boeing 737 Max jets and several 787 Dreamliner models, reflecting Turkish Airlines’ ambitious expansion plans and commitment to maintaining a modern and efficient fleet.
