MediaCorp continues its yearly tradition of publishing the “100 top employers in Canada” list. This competition, running since 2000, has become a prestigious event in Canada and guides the job hunt for both Canadians and newcomers. The aim is to recognize employers offering exceptional workplaces for their employees.
The selection criteria are based on eight factors and competing organizations in the same industry are assessed and given letter grades in each category. These categories include workplace, work atmosphere and social factors, health financial and family benefits, vacation and time off, employee communications, performance management, training and skills development, and community involvement.
In terms of achieving Canadian permanent residence through employment, the type of work permit one has is crucial. This can be either an open work permit or a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)-based work permit. The former allows individuals to work in most industries and for most employers, while the latter only permits work for one employer in a specific industry.
For the first time, the list includes five schools in the top 100 employers, with notable staff perks. Some of the companies in the list include the Procter & Gamble (P&G) Canada, British Columbia Investment Management Corp. (BCI), and Bank of Canada (BoC). There are also unique work environments such as Mars Canada’s head office in Toronto, Binder Dijker Otte (BDO) Canada, and Harper Collin’s immersive work environment.
