If you are interested in immigrating to Canada as a skilled worker, the first step is to complete an Express Entry profile. This profile will determine your eligibility for permanent residence based on your score and rank in the Express Entry pool using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
The CRS is a points-based system that evaluates applicants based on factors such as education, skills, work experience, and language ability. The Government of Canada emphasizes that each applicant may only have one Express Entry profile at a time, as per Canada’s immigration law. Creating more than one profile will not increase your chances of being invited to apply for Canadian permanent residency.
In a recent report from the beginning of 2023, there was a substantial increase in the number of duplicate profiles in the Express Entry pool. As of January 9th, 2023, there were 29,945 duplicate profiles associated with 10, 229 unique candidates. The report identified that 70% of duplicate profiles did not show a change in CRS scores, and 53% of the duplicates had been inactive for 100 days.
To be eligible for Express Entry, you must meet the criteria of at least one of the three federal economic immigration programs: The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).
The FSWP is the primary economic immigration pathway and requires candidates to have work experience in a skilled occupation under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) TEER category 0, 1, 2, or 3, language ability, and an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) report.
The CEC provides permanent residence to international students and foreign workers who have Canadian work experience, while the FSTP is available to candidates who want to become permanent residents based on qualifying for a skilled trade.
