Ghana eVisa

Vice President of Ghana, Mahamudu Bawumia, hinted in 2019 that Ghana would introduce a new electronic-visa system (evisa) in 2020 to facilitate the process of getting travel authorisations for persons visiting Ghana. He said the move forms part of efforts to increase the number of tourists as well as businessmen who plan to visit the country.

Not much was heard on the implementation of e-Visa system for Ghana after the announcement as the country’s attention was grabbed by the Coronavirus pandemic until October 2020 that the government invited eligible bidders to send in their sealed bids towards the designing, supplying, installation, capacity building, and deployment of the Electronic Visa Solution (eVisa) for the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

According to the procurement notice, the installation was to begin in January 2021 to May 2021 at Kotoka International Airport, Paga, Elubo, Aflao, Takoradi, Tema, any location around the world from where a visitor wants to travel to Ghana.

The Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture has already acknowledged the receipt of financing from the World Bank toward the cost of the Tourism Development, and intends to apply part of the proceeds toward payments under the contract for the Design, Supply, Install, Build Capacity, and Deploy Electronic Visa Solution (eVisa) for the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

Jetsanza.com is monitoring any development and would update travellers to Ghana once the Ghana eVisa becomes available.

Ghana e Visa Online

When the proposed e Visa for Ghana is launched, visitors to Ghana would be able to obtain visas online through a designated eVisa portal without the need to visit the High Commission of Ghana or the Ghana Embassy. This is expected to facilitate the Ghana visa application process for persons visiting the country.

Ghana e-Visa Application

The Ghana e-Visa application would have an online application form and also allow visa applicants to upload all their required documents for their visa application. It is currently not known if visas would be delivered to the applicants by email or they would be printed online from the eVisa application portal.

Does Ghana have e visa?

Ghana does not have an e visa system. Ghana is in the process of implementing an eVisa system and its implementation was expected to complete in May 2021 but not much has been heard about its status and implementation date.
