The National Identification Authority (NIA) has launched a website where Ghanaians can initiate their Ghana Card application process. It is a responsive and easy-to-use website. The application process takes less than 10 minutes if all the needed information is available.
Requirement to complete Ghana Card online application
An applicant for a Ghana Card needs the following to be able to complete the online application form:
1- Proof of citizenship; eg: Passport, Birth Certificate, Voter’s ID or Drivers License
2- Digital address
3- Personal, Spouse and parents details
1. Visit the NIA website
Visit the NIA website at https://register.nia.gov.gh . Click on Create a new application. A registration ID will be automatically generated. Write down this ID as it will serve as your username should it become necessary for you to log back to complete the application. Choose your password and hit on Start Application.
2. Fill Applicant’s name
Enter the name of the applicant. The name you enter here is what will appear on your card. Crosscheck and make sure you have provided your last name and first names correctly. No field is provided for middle names, so add middle names to your first names. Hit on Save and Continue.
3. Save Application
A pop up appears. Hit on YES.
4. Status
Here, you will be asked to select your gender and marital status. Only Male and Female are available. There is no provision for other genders aside male and female. You will also be asked to choose the document with which you are claiming citizenship with. Select the document and then select other documents you have. You will be asked later to enter details of all the documents you selected.
If you are not sure of your height in centimetres, key in any figure and it will be corrected once you present yourself in person to complete the application process.
5. Physical Address
The Ghana Digital Address is required as part of the registration. Enter the digital address and then key in the residential address including the district and region.
6. Spouse Details
If you selected MARRIED earlier on, you are to provide the full name of your spouse. If you have more than one spouse, you have to enter all their names.
7. Parents Details
Provide the full names of your parents and indicate if they are dead or alive. Hometown of parents are also needed here.
8. Next of Kin
Enter the full name of your next of kin and provide his/her residential address.
9. Document Verification
Details of the main document you selected with which you are claiming Ghanaian citizenship, will be entered here. Details of the rest of the documents will be needed later on.
10. Contact Information
Provide your email address and all phone numbers. You can provide up to four phone numbers. Do not start them with +. Other fields are available for international phone numbers if you live abroad as well.
11. Additional Documents
Details of any other document you ticked would be needed here. Enter the details of all your IDs and birth certificate.
12. Preview Application
A preview of the details you provided will be shown. Go through to make sure there are no errors or typos. If there is anything to correct, click on the < sign at the top left to go back to the form. If there is nothing to correct, hit on Declaration.
13. Declaration
Read the declaration message and think sign by ticking the space provided at the bottom. Then submit form.
14. Print Form
Go to Application History page to Download and Print the form. After printing, visit any of the National Identification Authority registration centres with the form, and all other documents you ticked during the registration to complete the process.
