The price of the Deutschlandticket will remain unchanged throughout the whole year, confirmed by the German authorities. The Minister of Transport in North Rhine-Westphalia, Oliver Krischer, expressed his belief that more people will choose to purchase the ticket, which will continue to cost only €49 per month.
According to Minister Krischer, the Conference of Transport Ministers unanimously decided to keep the price for the Deutschlandticket at €49 per month in 2024. The ticket was launched in May of last year and has been very popular among Germans and travellers staying in the country due to its affordability.
Now that the price of the ticket will be the same until the end of this year, Krischer hopes for the ticket to be purchased more widely, with the expectation that it will lead to a rise in revenue. The ticket can be used on all buses and trains that operate in short and medium distances, and it is valid nationwide, enabling Germany-wide journeys in public and regional rail transport.
The €49 ticket comes as a monthly subscription and is automatically renewed every month. It can be cancelled at any time, making it very convenient for foreign travellers. Children under six can travel for free with the ticket, and it is non-transferable.
Last summer, at least ten million people used the €49 ticket in July and August 2023 alone. The authorities anticipate an even higher number of people purchasing the ticket this year to travel within Germany.
