Following a recent terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel, the German government has announced temporary visa relief for citizens of Israel currently in the country.
The German Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community has suspended the requirement for a residence permit for citizens of Israel, allowing them to stay in Germany visa-free until April 26, 2024. This decision comes in light of the current situation and the recent attacks on Israel.
German Minister of Interior, Nancy Faeser, expressed deep concern about the situation and emphasized the country’s solidarity with the people of Israel. She stated that Germany is committed to providing support to those affected by the conflict and those staying with friends and family in Germany.
Normally, citizens of Israel are allowed to stay in Germany without a visa for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. However, under the new regulation, they will be exempt from the requirement for a residence permit and can extend their visa-free stay from January 26, 2024, to April 26, 2024.
The German government’s decision to allow Israeli citizens to stay in Germany without a residence permit has been described as “pragmatic and unbureaucratic help” by Minister Faeser. The aim is to provide full support during this difficult time and extend a helping hand to those affected by the conflict.
Since the beginning of the attacks, Germany has been showing its support for Israel. Recently, the German state of Saxony-Anhalt announced that citizenship applicants will be required to confirm their recognition of Israel’s right to exist. The state also condemned any efforts directed against the existence of the country.
This temporary visa relief is a demonstration of Germany’s commitment to supporting and providing assistance to the people of Israel during this challenging period.
