Germany and Morocco Reach Agreement on Migration Partnership
In an effort to address current migration challenges, German and Moroccan authorities have reached an agreement on a migration partnership. The agreement is aimed at reducing irregular migration and encouraging legal labor migration.
The partnership is the result of talks held by the German Federal Minister of Interior Nancy Faeser during her visit to Rabat in October. Minister Faeser emphasized that the agreement is in the common interest of both countries. She stated that the agreement opens a new chapter in their relationship and is a step towards reducing irregular migration and strengthening legal labor migration.
Minister Faeser also expressed the intention to facilitate the return of Moroccans who do not have the right to remain in Germany, while also promoting controlled labor migration of qualified Moroccans who can fill job vacancies in the country.
Dr. Joachim Stamp, the Federal Government’s Special Representative for Migration Agreements, led the delegation in finalizing the partnership between Germany and Morocco. He emphasized the commitment to working together to curb irregular migration and enhance legal pathways for labor migration.
According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community, the bilateral working structure established by Germany and Morocco will facilitate close cooperation between the two countries. Regular meetings between authorities will continue to be held to discuss measures for enabling controlled migration and facilitating the return of Moroccan nationals without the right to remain in Germany.
