The European Union (EU) and other non-EU countries have introduced an EU Digital COVID Certificate to do away with the current restrictions in place as they are lifted in a coordinated manner. The certificate which issuance and usage start on July 1, 2021, is an indication that the holder has either been vaccinated against COVID-19, received a negative test result or recovered from COVID-19.
EU member countries, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Iceland and Norway have signed up to issue the EU Digital COVID Certificate to their citizens.
Holders of the EU Digital COVID Certificate are exempted from free movement restrictions and prevents EU member countries from imposing additional travel restrictions on the holders of an EU Digital COVID Certificate unless they are necessary and proportionate to safeguard public health.
