- Emirates Airlines has strictly banned pagers and walkie-talkies in checked and carry-on luggage for all flights to, from, and via Dubai.
- This decision follows last month’s violent attacks on Hezbollah, where communication devices, notably pagers and radios, were reportedly used to trigger explosions.
- The airline’s security measures now include Dubai Police inspection of baggage and confiscating any prohibited items.
- Flights to Iraq, Iran, and Lebanon face suspensions, with services to Jordan expected to resume soon amid ongoing regional tensions.
In response to last month’s violence involving Hezbollah and suspected explosive communication devices, Emirates Airlines has introduced a strict prohibition on certain electronic items across its flights. Passengers traveling to, from, or via Dubai are no longer permitted to bring pagers or walkie-talkies in their checked or carry-on luggage, a decision announced in a recent statement by the airline on its official website.
“Passengers found carrying prohibited items will have these confiscated by Dubai Police,” the airline emphasized, citing this as a necessary move in light of heightened security precautions. The ban responds directly to the September attacks that utilized booby-trapped pagers and radios—incidents that resulted in widespread casualties and have been largely attributed to Israeli forces, although no formal claim has been made.
The new security policy, designed to prevent similar incidents, comes with extended flight suspensions affecting routes to several destinations in the Middle East. Emirates has suspended flights to Iraq and Iran until Tuesday and extended the suspension of flights to Lebanon until October 15, following a series of attacks targeting Hezbollah, including incidents near Beirut’s airport. Meanwhile, flights to Jordan are slated to resume on Sunday.
As the Middle East’s largest carrier, Emirates Airlines is emphasizing its commitment to passenger safety amidst the complex and evolving security landscape in the region.
