In the afternoon, we’ll visit the famous British Museum, and if time allows, St Paul’s Cathedral. You’ll enjoy the scene of Tower Bridge and the Tower of London while on board the motorcoach.
We’ll stay overnight in London or a neighbouring city.
Optional Tour: River Thames Cruise £15.00/Person
Day 02: London – Cambridge – York
Hotel: Holiday Inn Harrogate / Blackwell Grange Hotel or similar
After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll depart London to visit one of England’s most prestigious educational institutions: Cambridge University, comprising King’s College and Queen’s College, among many other world-famous faculties.
After exploring this historic city, we’ll journey to York, a true medieval melting pot of Roman, Saxon and Viking heritage. Mostly intact from the Middle Ages, the city is emblematic of England’s more bucolic side. We’ll visit York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe. Then we’ll step up onto the York city walls, dating back to Roman times.
For those keen to discover the little grass-roots shops, there will be ample time to explore.
Optional Tour: Cambridge Punting GBP 20.00/Person
Day 03: York – Edinburgh – Glasgow
Hotel: Days Inn Abington / Holiday Inn Express Glasgow City Riverside or similar
Today we’ll cross the border into Scotland and visit the country’s compact but fascinating capital, Edinburgh, the perfect representation of Scottish heritage. Wooden barrows of gold single malt whiskey, checked kilts and Scottish bagpipes will make you grow fond of this lively nation full of quirky characters.
First up on the list is a visit to Edinburgh Castle (admission not included) where we will admire the oldest royal crown and jewellery. From here we’ll continue down the Royal Mile to Holyrood Palace, City Hall and the Royal Parks. You may also opt to join us for a visit to JK Rowling’s Ivory Cafe, where Harry Potter was penned, to enjoy a cup of coffee (own expense).
Accommodations for the evening are in Glasgow or a neighbouring city.
Day 04: Glasgow – Gretna Green – Lake District – Manchester
Hotel: Holiday Inn Express Manchester East / Novotel Manchester West or similar
In the morning, we’ll head back across the border to the Northwest of England. Here we’ll drive straight to Lake District, and en route, we’ll make a stop in Gretna Green, a village in the south of Scotland famous for ‘runaway marriages’ dating back to 1754.
The most famous and visited national park in England, the Lake District National Park is a picturesque landscape of rolling hills, stunning lakes, and beautiful foliage. Each year tens of thousands of visitors travel here to see thousands of years of geological changes reflected in the lakes, valleys, mountains, and waterfalls. You may opt to join a cruise on Lake Windermere (own expense), or hop off at the World of Beatrix Potter.
We’ll end the day with a drive to Manchester, the headquarters of Manchester United, as well as England’s most industrial metropolis. Football fans will enjoy a pilgrimage to the Manchester United Old Trafford grounds.
