Canada Visa Application Centre Introduces New Passport Submission and Collection Process; Opens On Saturdays

In a recent press release, the Canada Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Accra has announced important changes to the passport submission and collection process. Effective June 19, 2023, applicants will need to book an appointment for in-person passport submission at the VAC between 08:00 and 14:30. Additionally, passport collection can be done between 14:30 and 16:30. The new procedures aim to enhance efficiency and streamline the passport handling process for visa applicants.

For those opting for in-person passport submission, it is essential to schedule an appointment at the VAC within the designated hours. This will ensure a smooth and organized process for both applicants and VAC staff. Furthermore, applicants are reminded that a third party or family member can collect their passport on their behalf, provided they present the necessary documents.

Alternatively, applicants can choose to submit their passports via courier. Once applicants receive notification from the Government of Canada requesting their passports, they can send the required documents, including the passport request letter received from IRCC, a copy of the biometrics sticker (if applicable), contact information, payment confirmation for courier service (if desired), Visa Application Centre consent form, photos (if a valid passport is not available), and any other documents specified in the passport request letter, to the VAC through a courier company of their choice.

When it comes to passport collection, applicants can retrieve their passports in person at the VAC between 14:30 and 16:30. It is important to note that third parties or family members can also collect the passport on behalf of the applicant, provided they present the required documents, including authorization from the applicant, a valid government-issued photo identity, and a copy of the applicant’s ID. Additionally, a receipt issued by VAC included in the passport collection notification email must be presented.

To facilitate convenience for applicants, the VAC will also be open on Saturdays between June 24, 2023, and August 26, 2023, from 09:00 to 13:00, allowing applicants to submit and collect their passports during these extended hours.

Applicants are urged not to submit their passports to the VAC until they receive a passport request letter from IRCC. This applies to both individuals and family members. A passport request letter specifically issued for each individual must be received before submitting the passport.

The VAC emphasizes the importance of adhering to the new guidelines. Effective June 19, 2023, it is necessary to book an appointment for passport submission between 08:00 and 14:30 at the VAC. Failure to do so may result in delays or inconveniences during the process.
